Trash to treasure: how recycled plastic lids became your room's chicest accessory
When you check into your room, you’ll notice the more obvious details first - the Mia Laing artwork, the handmade bedheads, the beautiful orange arm chair. Then as you settle in, you’ll find the smaller, curated details that we love the most. One of those being, the beautiful plastic trays holding the coffee mugs. You’re not just looking at a plastic tray - you’re looking at 364 recycled plastic lids.

Did you know that plastic bottle caps are among the top items found during beach cleanups? Because of their small size and mixed plastic types, standard recycling facilities often can’t process them, meaning billions end up buried in the earth or floating in our oceans.
Here at The Timothee we believe luxury shouldn’t be detrimental to the environment, which is why we collaborated with Margaret River Precious Plastics to bring unique room accessories but made them sustainable.
Precious Plastics are a non-profit organisation and take discarded plastic lids and transform them into beautiful, functional art. Their products are made in Australia and handcrafted in the South West. They source the lids directly from the community and their team of volunteers in Vasse clean and sort them by colour. Then, in their Margaret River workshop they shred them into flakes and melt them down to transform them. These are 100% plastic waste, with no glues or resin and are made using just heat and pressure.

As well as being able to buy your own shredded plastic from their website to create your own masterpieces at home, you can buy homewares, combs and keyrings directly from them or their small number of stockists in area (our closest are at Busselton Jetty and Origins Market).
After loving our trays so much, we also asked Precious Plastics to create bespoke do not disturb signs for each of our rooms.
Our collaboration with Margaret River Precious Plastics is just one of the ways we are striving to keep our footprint light. When you stay with us, you're supporting a team that has the environment in mind and that includes:
