Meet the Makers: the local art inside your room.

When we were thinking of artwork for our rooms, we knew we wanted a local artist and we also knew we wanted to celebrate the local area. So we reached our to award winning West Australian oil painter Mia Laing, she has been painting professionally in oils since 2012. Her art is narrative-driven, highly detailed and often feature Australian birds and botanicals. Collectors often describe her work as ‘emotionally uplifting’ - that was exactly what we wanted for our rooms.

The first piece of art commissioned is ‘The Long Lunch’ (above) the painting acts as a visual anchor in the guest rooms. Its bright citrus yellows, palm greens, and sky blues provide a vibrant, lively contrast to the room's neutral walls and warm, earthy tones. It immediately evokes the feeling of a lazy afternoon by the pool, throwback summer holidays, and effortless outdoor living.

For the second piece that was commissioned, the brief was an old style rum bottle (leaning into a theory of why Timothee Vasse fell overboard was due to him drinking) with a label from the year Timothee Vasse became stranded in Busselton and Dieppe, Normandy which was where he was born. We imagined a story of him throwing a bottle overboard with a message in it. The idea of having native flowers sitting in represents him landing in Busselton. And the two stories intertwining. Mia really took the idea and ran with it, and the below was created.

Adding in the pops of citrus and red checked tablecloth pulls both the paintings together, mixing old with new, which is exactly what The Timothee is about.
